Hello! Angie here, co-founder of Natlingo. I have always believed that language is more than words, more than syntax, more than the mechanics of speaking and being understood. It is a doorway. A way in. A way through.
I was lucky. Born to Swiss parents and raised between Peru and other places, so I grew up speaking multiple languages. Some were passed down to me at home, part of daily life. Others I learned just by being immersed in them. Portuguese, for example, came to me when I was young and living in Brasil—I picked it up naturally, without even thinking about it.
Little me in our family home in Lima, Peru.
When you learn a language as a child, it sticks with you. Because knowing a language means knowing a place, people, and way of thinking. It is to move through the world with an open heart, to see others not as strangers but as potential friends.
I have worked in America, in England, in Switzerland, and in Peru. I have traveled and met people who, in another life, might have remained foreign to me. But they were not, because language is a bridge. Because multilingualism is not just a skill—it is a way of being in the world.
And so I dream of passing this gift on. Seeing children light up when they realize they can express a thought, a feeling, in a language that once felt impossible. Watching them become not just bilingual, but open, curious, compassionate human beings.
